11:52AM PDT - We’re experiencing issues with our data center ISP so you may have some intermittent connectivity issues reaching Brightkite.com from web or on our mobile apps. We’re looking to have this fixed shortly but our ISP is on the case working on a resolution.

7/21 2:40PM PDT - Site Issues
We’re currently experiencing minor issues on Brightkite.com for stream settings and minor latency. The issue is being resolved now and we’re working on pushing a fix very soon.
No other details are available but we’ll return to normal operations soon and will update this post once the issue has been resolved.

We are currently doing a configuration change that should allow us to make speed improvements to a number of the problem areas that we have been experiencing over the last few days (see yesterday’s post). The current ETA for finishing this process is about an hour, we will update if it seems to be running any longer then expected
7/14 Spam update
Brightkite has been growing significantly, which is great for everyone. The flip side of this coin is that we have been attracting an increasing number of spammers. In the last week we’ve seen spammers posting (and attempting to post) into Brightkite hundreds of times a second, 24/7. This has caused two issues:

Temporary Filtering Issues on Brightkite
A temporary issue is occurring where, when switching from friends to everybody view may display the incorrect data such as showing only one post instead of the normal amount of posts. The current workaround is to refresh the page. There is also some minor slowness on Brightkite.com right now that you may notice.

Temporary Brightkite Site Slowness (maintenance)
4:03PM PDT: There is a very temporary maintenance procedure we’re conducting right now that will only last for an hour or so that will cause Brightkite.com to appear slower than normal. We’re aware of the performance hit and things will be back to normal very shortly.

Redirect Issues on Brighkite.com (w/ Fix)
On June 10th at 3:30PDT, we patched an issue to make Brightkite more secure for our community but any users that had web site cookies from Brightkite within the past week, this cookie has been marked as expired.
The result is that you’ll be redirected and receive a 301 timeout page.

Photos posted via email being marked as "only me"
We’ve discovered an issue affecting a small number of our users where email posts marked “only me” containing photos will be sent to Brightkite with privacy settings, “only me” which will cause those photos to not be viewable by anyone but the user who sent it in.
We have began researching the bug and will update this post once it has been resolved. Thank you.

Apple Push Notification Service Issues
We are currently experiencing problems with the delivery of push notifications to Apple iPhones and iPods using the push notification service. This is only affecting a small number of our users where some notifications aren’t being delivered.
We’re working with Apple and AT&T (in the US) on a fix. If you are experiencing this issue, please let us know.
Temporary SMS Upstream Delays (Resolved)
5-6-2010 - 4:38PM PST: We’re experiencing a few Upstream Delays that are occurring on the carrier’s end. These delays affect our ability to process SMS notifications sent out to Brightkite and Group Text users. This delay is temporary and will be resolved shortly. No messages will be lost, just delayed.

Planned Datacenter Maintenance (5-6-2010)
As we grow larger, it’s important to do occasional upgrades and maintenance to the servers that make Brightkite run smoothly. To do that, we have to take a few services offline temporarily. On May 6th from 2AM to 5AM Pacific Time, we’ll be conducting maintenance on our datacenter.

Discover Friends Unavailable Temporarily
4-29-9:42AM Our Discovery Friends feature enabling users to find and add friends across different social networks is down temporary but will be restored shortly. Just a heads up that if you try to access this feature via our website or mobile apps, it won’t work.
[RESOLVED] SMS Upstream to Sprint/Nextel/Boost...
This has been resolved. Users will start receiving delayed notifications now.
As of 2:51PM PST, we’re unable to send out SMS notifications and group text messages to our Sprint/Nextel/Boost users due to an upstream issue with the carrier. This is only a delay and all messages will be sent once the outage is resolved.

In addition to the Group Text functionality in today’s release, there are a number of additional features and bug fixes. Some of the more significant ones are listed below:

Photo Upload Downtime 3-7-2010
An image processing server experienced issues around midnight on Sunday 3-7-2010 so storage processes & services were unable to start.
We resolved the issue and restored the photo processing service at 11:40AM on 3-7-2010.
All Brightkite services related to photo uploading are restored and fully functional.
